The Many Benefits We Can Get from the Different Types of Coconut Oil

Coconut oil or copra is the oil squeezed out from the white meat or kernel of a ripe coconut. The industries of the food, health and beauty sectors are applying or using the coconut oil and this oil is edible just like almond oil or olive oil.

There are several benefits in using or consuming coconut oil, among which the result would help support a normal function of a our body and maintain healthy systems in our body. Among these benefits are it supports a normal metabolism of our body, it helps maintain normal blood glucose level, it supports a healthy heart and immune system, it maintains normal digestion and nutrient absorption, it hydrates our skin, it moisturizes hair, a source of quick energy, and other benefits.

Many brands are available of coconut oil and they differ based on the quality, source, method of production and other conditions.

When buying coconut oil, you should look at its price, the color of the liquid, and its scent or smell.

You will notice when you buy coconut that there are several terms used on the label and it is advisable that you understand these terms to know the quality you are buying.

One term you will notice is the certified organic coconut oil that signifies no use of pesticides on the coconuts where the oil was extracted from. The next term is the all-natural label that means no chemicals are used during the manufacturing process of the oil. Then there is the refined and unrefined where impurities and coconut flavour are involved with refined as eliminating impurities and coconut flavour, and the unrefined as leaving smell and flavour of the oil.

Some labels would show virgin or extra virgin coconut oil, however, there is no difference between these two except that the extra virgin connotes a higher grade of coconut oil.

When the coconut oil was extracted without using high level of heat, then it is labelled as raw coconut oil.

Be informed that there are three methods in extracting oil from a coconut, and these are through cold-pressed, expeller-pressed and centrifuged. To produce the oil, all the proteins, water and fiber of the coconut kernel are removed from it. Note that for a single gallon of coconut oil, it takes about 65 coconuts, and several processes are done to achieve this.

The extraction of coconut oil from the kernel is done by the process of either dry or wet. When using the dry processing, coconut meat is removed from the kernel, then left out under the sun to dry, and then the dried meat is either pressed or dissolved in solvents. Through wet process on the other hand, the coconut meat is removed from the kernel and is directly pressed to give a liquid that is a mix of oil and water.
