What is the Best Mattress for Your Baby?
New moms are the most excited person to buy her baby new things. And if the cute little thing is your first one, then you would only want to buy what is best for him. You would only want your baby to sleep in the best baby mattress available. However, since there are too many choices, it becomes very challenging for you to pick the best one.
You will find it easier to purchase the best mattress if you are given baby mattress buying tips. Below are some of the things you need to consider before buying your new baby mattress.
The first tip in buying a baby mattress is to choose a firm one. You might be thinking that buying a soft mattress would help your baby sleep well. Comfort plays a big role in your decision but it is not the most important one. It is very important that the baby is safe and comfortable. If you are choosing between a soft and a firm mattress, choose the firm one. The baby will sink in the soft mattress and will have difficulty going back to his normal position.
Choose a mattress with a solid surface; this means it is firm. Although soft mattresses are not ideal, it does not mean that you have to buy a hard one. Firm mattresses and hard ones are not the same thing. You can tell a firm mattress because it will give your hand a slight bounce when you press or push it. A soft mattress will swallow your hand but a hard mattress will not move at all.
The baby mattress should fit the baby’s crib. Even if a mattress is standard size, there are mattresses that are either too small or too big. To be sure, bring your crib measurement when you buy your mattress. There should be a tight fit of the mattress in the crib without any visible gap between the mattress and the frame.
There are many types of mattresses you can buy including foam mattresses, and a coil or inner-spring mattresses. There is not much difference between these types except for their prices. If you can afford a coil mattress with many springs inside, then this is the firmest mattress.
If you are on a tight budget a foam mattress will do. Choose a quality foam mattress. Choose a foam mattress that has some weight. When it is weight, then it has a denser and firmer material.
Make sure the mattress is waterproof. The mattress will be the receiving end of the baby’s pee, saliva and spilt food since he is the regular resident of this crib. If your mattress is not waterproof, then it will absorb everything into it which will make the mattress dirty and foul smelling.
